Responsibilities
Technicians play a hands-on role creating customised and semi customised devices, including prosthetic sockets, orthoses, silicone devices, and footwear modifications. Their work includes:
- Preparing materials, laminating, shaping, finishing, and assembling components.
- Manufacturing check sockets and definitive sockets, often using established lay-ups and guidelines.
- Producing bespoke and semi-bespoke orthotic components,
Technicians work closely with prosthetists, orthotists, and workshop leads to translate clinical prescriptions into finished devices. They collaborate daily with clinical teams, receiving instructions and ensuring devices meet functional and cosmetic standards.
Some technicians may use CAD/CAM and 3D printing as part of their role.
