Led by Pain Specialist Dr Sheela Perumal and National Rehab Lead Sinead Ennis, the group includes representatives from centres across the country. Members bring a wide range of clinical experience and expertise, with a special interest in pain management and rehabilitation.
The group has been formed to strengthen interdisciplinary pain expertise within the national service and support more consistent approaches to pain management across centres.
Early priorities include workforce development, along with the creation of patient education materials and practical resources for staff. Training sessions focused on non-pharmacological pain management will also be delivered with clinical teams, either locally within centres or nationally, depending on the topic and the most effective way to deliver it.
Initial patient education resources will focus on pacing, sleep, and managing flare-ups – key areas that can help people better understand and manage persistent pain in everyday life.
Staff can also expect to see a new collection of pain-related books arriving in centres soon, providing additional learning and development opportunities for teams across the organisation.
This group reflects the strength of collaboration across our services and the shared commitment to improving outcomes for people living with pain. By bringing together expertise from across the organisation, the Pain Collaborators Group will help build confidence, consistency and capability in how we support patients. We look forward to sharing updates, resources, and opportunities to get involved as this work continues.
